March 2025 – City-wide Elections

March 2025 – City-wide elections

The City is divided into 25 wards, small electoral districts, each with a number of Common Councillors and one Alderman. There are 125 elected members of the City of London Corporation in total, who look after local services in the City and beyond, and serve as the representative voice of City businesses here and around the world.

Voters can help make sure their priorities are on the agenda: from support in growing their business to creating safe, green and bustling streets.  We also look after local services such as roads, rubbish collection, planning and the police – ensuring this remains one of the best places to live, work and visit in the world.

The next all-out elections to the Common Council will be on the 20th March 2025, but by-elections and elections for Alderman can be held at any time.

If you are a registered voter, it is best to apply for a postal vote. Details of how to do this are set out below.

Your chance to shape the City

Who can Register?

Voters must be UK, Commonwealth or EU citizens. Businesses and other organisations in the City can nominate those who have worked for them here for at least one year since 1 September 2020.  They can also appoint voters who meet other qualifications: please see the notes on the voter registration form. If a voter lives outside the City, they can be registered for local elections in both places.

Ensuring representation

The law requires that your voters reflect your workforce

You should, where possible, register a wide cross-section of your organisation and should avoid only registering senior staff.

If your organisation has staff networks, who represent the interests of the wider workforce, these can provide a perfect source of voting representatives. Please use your full voter allocation – to ensure as many of your colleagues as possible are able to help shape the City’s future. You may want to email colleagues inviting them to become voting representatives. If you would like a copy of a template email, please contact electoralservices@cityoflondon.gov.uk.
